Improvements to Appointment Booking

Starting Monday 7th June 2021

Why are we making changes?

As you will be aware, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic early last year meant that all GP Practices across the country were forced to change how they operated in a very short space of time. This involved switching to primarily same-day telephone consultations, with many protocols in place to help protect staff and patients from the spread of the virus. During this time, our Practice has tried to make great efforts to remain as open and accessible as possible for our patients.

Whist the problems caused by the pandemic are not over, especially in a healthcare setting, the Practice is trying to make steps to adapt our systems further whilst also continuing to keep staff and patients safe. We have listened to feedback from patients and our goals are:

  • To reintroduce online booking for all GP appointments
  • Reduce the demand on phone lines during peak times
  • Allow for a more defined call-back times for GP appointments

What will be different?

GP appointments will remain telephone consultations in the first instance but will now be offered in designated 'call back windows'. Once booked into one of these longer slots, you can expect that a GP will call you between the beginning and the end of the slot. For example: you may book into an hour slot between 9:00am and 10:00am. The GP will then call you at some point between these two times. Please make sure that you are available to take a call during this time as they will try no more than 3 times to reach you (the call may be made from a withheld number). When called, each patient will be able to have a consultation no longer than 10 minutes, as was the case prior to COVID-19.

Same-day appointmetns will be available to book online or via telephone from 8:15am (Monday-Friday).

Advanced booking appointments will be available to book online or via telephone from 14:30pm (Monday-Friday) up to one week in advance. We aim to offer a range or pre-booked appointments outside the normal working day (i.e before 9:00am and after 16:00pm).

When will these changes take place?

The changes will come into effect from Monday 7th June 2021.

COVID-19 Vaccinations

Information for Patients

The Practice is currently taking part in the national COVID-19 vaccination programme, and all staff are working extremely hard to ensure a smooth roll roll out whilst also maintaining our usual services. These clinic are being held at Middlewood Medical Centre and this may mean certain services are relocated to Tramways Medical Centre during this time.

For all the most current information on vaccine clinics, who is being invited and what to expect, please see the COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics page or click here.

Thank you for your patience for your challenging time.

Limiting Visitor Numbers to the Practice

Important Information for All Patients

Whilst coronavirus restrictions continue to be lifted slowly across the UK, the Practice would like to remind all patients about the importance of maintaining good social distancing measures to protect our most vulnerable patients.

The Practice is therefore still advising patients to call and speak to a member of staff prior to attending surgery for any reason. Do not attend the Practice unless asked to do so by a member of staff.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) and have a pre-arranged appointment please let us know. We kindly ask that if you have a face covering available then you wear this where possible when entering our buildings. Please understand that this precaution is taken in the best interests of other patients and staff until further information is received from NHS England.

Middlewood Medical Centre is currently being used to host vaccination clinics and therefore we will be unable to deal with any queries whilst clinics are in progress.

If you have any queries on the Coronavirus situation, such as if you are unsure on the symptoms or what to do if you feel unwell, please visit the government website at

Thank you to all our patients in helping with this matter.
