Men's Health
Men are not currently part of any specific screening programme, as the illnesses they are likely to get are not as readily detectable. However there are specific areas of health men should be aware of and if you have questions about these it is perfectly appropriate to see your GP for advice.
These include:-
Testicular cancer, there is a need for self examination including young men
Prostate enlargement with age versus prostate cancer
Heart disease/High blood pressure - men have a higher risk than women and tend to see the doctor less, so conditions can be undetected for many years. Men may benefit from an 'MOT' type assessment around the ager of 50, younger if a smoker, overweight, unfit or a have a family history.
Please remember you don't have to be "unwell" to see your doctor and prevention of illness with simple lifestyle changes can be very effective.
