GETTING YOUR MEDICINES
Many people need to take tablets or medicines for longer than a short course. When this happens we try very hard to make sure that getting hold of a prescription is both safe and convenient. We have developed a computerised system to manage your repeat prescriptions and we are continually refining this to make sure we meet patient need whilst still working in accordance with national and local guidelines around prescribing.
- Only a GP or a Nurse can prescribe a medicine and they do this by adding it into your computerised medical record. We know that when a prescription is ordered it has been sanctioned by someone with authority to prescribe.
- All repeat prescriptions have a number of authorisations preset along with a review date for the GP or Nurse to see you again to check the prescription. Normally this is twelve prescription authorisations or twelve months whichever is the sooner.
- Only the GP or Nurse can re-authorise a prescription which has expired. In that way we know that you won't be left taking the same tablets year after year without anyone checking on the safety of your treatment.
- Ordering a prescription is simple. You can call in or telephone the surgery, write to us or order it on-line at https://SystmOnline.tpp-uk.com.
- We do ask however that telephone requests are made after 9.00am so that we can devote more time to answering the telephone and to book appointments at the start of the day. You must also state the site you wish to collect your prescription from.
- We can normally release the completed prescription to you in the next working day but at times it may take 48 hours to make your prescription available to. You should make sure that you order your prescription well before you take your last tablet and should always allow for the maximum 48 hours turn around of your prescription. Anything less than this should be seen as a bonus.
- Postal requests can be posted back to you if you send us a stamped addressed envelope. You can even request prescriptions from outside Sheffield if you're on holiday, as all NHS prescriptions can be dispensed from any NHS pharmacy.
